While writing, I found myself being drawn into the lives of these people, and discovered many new things about them along the way. I've been told that a writer learns from her characters, and that they somehow tell the writer things about themselves that were not previously known. It's definitely true. Come along with me and discover what my characters revealed to me as I spun this tale. And for those of you who have been waiting for the third in the series, you'll be happy to know it is complete. Another fun read. Your aquaculture for plant growth and fish is a sound concept but you don't put in the numbers quite enough to make it plausable; the amount of fish per gallon of water! You need to read more from The Mother Earth News. They have some great info on all their research that they have done over the past 40+ years. I recommend all Preppers to look into some of the projects that TMEN has conducted.I really hated the ending of this book. What happened?!! Run out of steam? About to have a good "knock-down, drag-out" fight and you leave it hanging. No taste for a little blood spilling or friends dying? That's what happens in war.!! So I guess you couldn't decide who would die and who would not.
So I immediately bought the 3rd book and it is years later. Never once was mentioned the 3 trucks full of heavily armed men. You really need to rewrite the end of the second book.

Not as good as the first book. There we're too many obstacles preventing Mark and Chris from getting back to the genesis project. I also it a little hard to understand them celebrating while the world was going to pieces
I enjoyed this book even if it is hard to believe that a group of people would be this organized and the digging of survival bunker was just WAY too easy! But if you just read it for entertainment value and not a survival manuel its ok. The idea that this group would be lucky enough to not only survive but have a doctor and a veterinarian as part if the group was a stretch.
I really like the book my only problem it took two thirds of the book to get back to where book one ended....I really liked the story and it really added to the series...but it should have been in book one not two,..OK I got that out of my system. with that said it still is a great story that is well told
I'v read a lot of prepper fiction and this one was pretty good.. not great. The first one in the series was good, but this one just continued on , and on with the mark storyline. when the situation with his dad was resolved, he still hung around because of his 'feelings'. i mean .. really? His family waiting , worried sick and he couldn't move his butt and process his feelings there? I was going to buy the third but I don't know.. that storyline really annoyed me lol.
Still, it was written well, and the rest of the storyline was good.
Again, this is not a survival manual, but a story of friends and family surviving. You want a manual, go read James Wesley Rawles.
I love this series. The characters are full and complete, and you care about what happens to them. It was truly heart-warming to see that, even in the face of certain death, people could put aside their own concerns and reach out a helping hand. What was cool was I would wonder how something would be taken care of and then boom! The author answered that question in the next few pages.
Again, not a manual or how to book, but a story of hope and love, of friends and family who not only care about each other but also want civilization to survive and rebuild.
I had chores, but I couldn't put it down! It's really excellent... good cliffhanger for #3. The writer has really developed her style and it's very engaging.
I was also impressed at the "clean" writing. As a born-again, I'm not a big fan of the f-bombs and people jumping each other every page. Cheryl manages to make a very exciting book that kept me happy, without getting raunchy, preachy, or profane.
Warning, though - block out a period of time to read it.
I'll have to finish the laundry tomorrow. I read the whole thing in one day.

I really enjoyed this book, maybe as not as the first one but it was still a great value for the money. I would definitely recommend the Target Earth books because overall I found them exceptional. This one I was a little disappointed that it back tracked so much from where the first book ended and spent so much time on the back story. This book mainly focuses on a few characters and somewhat neglects the rest of the group that we met in the first book. While I did enjoy the backstory and felt it was somewhat important I think it should have been included in book 1 or split and les of it covered in book 3. The ending was a real cliff hanger, looking forward to seeing how it continues in book 3. I reduced my rating because of the issues that were mentioned above, though I would still recommend this book and the Target Earth books as a great read.
